Can't start the player, weird update message

Since today I am getting this weird message "please get updated version from bsplayer.com" or something similar... What the hell, I do have the latest 2.26 version! The player would also close immediately after clicking ok. Reinstalling didn't help.
What gives?

adicoto 1st March 2008 03:21 PM

So ? Update, you are 4 builds behind the last update, wich is 2.27-958.

I can confirm this! Actually I also mentioned it in my "translation/GUI-bugs post". As I have always more versions installed at the same time I wasn't sure if this perhaps had something to do with those circumstances. I get this message for my version 2.26 installation (which has now become unaccessible) since installing the final 2.27 version (where I had to renew registration key). [I don't think this was also the case while using the 2.27 beta versions.]

So based on information received from the Internet, BSPlayer refuses to run?* : s h i t :
Why did you become so greedy all of sudden after v1.37... :( * You are far from monopoly of M$, which can put all sorts of restrictions in their software and still gain sales.

The last version I "love" is v1.36. Automoderating the word "s h i t" won't change the reality.

But if you un-check the "Check for new version of BS.Player at program startup"?
Maybe disconnect from internet before doing this

As an alternative delete the following line from BSplayer.xml settings file (open it with notepad)
Code:

        <lastvercheck type="int">1204370102</lastvercheck>
and see if the problem get fixed

Octopuss 1st March 2008 05:50 PM

Apparently, it once checks something and writes in some file and then you can't run it even with cable plugged out. It's totally silly, maybe it even sits in registry somewhere...

And just for the record, the last stable version is 2.26... 2.27 is beta!

even mor funny, you can't even uncheck the update thing cause the window goes poof and...

edit2: managed to uncheck the thing and edited those 2 lines out.... and guess. Still getting the same message. Also it says there is no new version available - lol.

Switching to Media Player Classic after some 3+ years then. This sucks more than a porn star.

I also have this message starting from today! Well it means Bsplayer is forcing people to update even if they don't wan't to do that. And uddate doesn't working. What gives them the right to force users to update???

Now, someone form webtech please tell us how we can run v2.26 without update! And do it now!

This happened to me today, too. I back dated my computer date to mid-February and now BSplayer works fine.

You can't; it simply doesn't come that far. The only thing you can do is click [OK] or [x] and in both cases BS.Player simply exits. Of course I have still 2.27 working so it is not a big problem for me. Only I cannot do any tests with version 2.26 anymore (which I'm convinced I still could with 2.27 beta-versions).

Doesn't do the trick (already tried that yesterday.)

Unfortunately I have no time to do more tests until Tuesday, and probably BSP team is in weekend break, so until Monday they will not answer.. :(

BSPeter 1st March 2008 10:50 PM

(Deleting BSplayer.xml in full doesn't help either)
Moving this thread to bugs-section.
(also read this locked thread concerning the same problem)

This is bug in version 2.26. Only BETA versions are date limited. Date checking code was somehow left in release version.
Please just download new version.
We are sorry for any inconvenience.

But what happens if (in accordance with (time-limited) licence-policy) the version 2.25 or 2.26 is the last one which official purchasers can download? Have the 2.25 and 2.26 versions available for download meanwhile been substituted by versions where this bug is removed, or ....?
:?:

Octopuss 2nd March 2008 01:11 PM

I am not sure I want to download anything after looking at news page.

Umek's single and video "Posing as Me", debuted on the MTV in early 2007, are now available for download as a special features of the original BS.Player package.

Is there any software left that doesn't ship will all kinds of useless crap that only annoys people?
Personally I do not give a %$^# who does any company cooperate with and why... I want a piece of sofware and that means only the software. If I wanted to infest my pc with crap or waste my disk space, I would visit warez sites and install more Microsoft produts. BSP used to be really great program but apparently the direction it is going is absolutely incompatible with my thinking.
If I wanted to hear/see any useless commercial music for those without taste, I would turn on the tv and watch MTV.

But that's almost a rant now, so I won't comment more.

@Octopuss: The option is yours. At the download-page you can opt for downloading BS.Player "sec", i.e. without any media, or you can opt to download BS.Player together with the media as offered. So you have the option and your post doesn't make any sence at all if you had just taken the trouble to check or to ask.

Octopuss 2nd March 2008 01:35 PM

Hehe ok I am just purely frustrated from lots of things together :P

BSPeter 2nd March 2008 01:55 PM

No problem there. I quite understand your irritation and frustration. Unfortunately (but not uncommon) this 'mishap' was "discovered" in a weekend, when BS.Player's team is - of course - less accessible (though I must say I was pleasantly surprised to see both bst and Mat2000 been active on the forum today). So I'm afraid we'll have to be a bit patient till to-morrow for a real solution.

BETA notification window

BS.Player BETA was time limited version, intended to run only until the final version 2.2.7.

Unfortunately, the code to display window "Please download updated version from www.bsplayer.com" in BETA was not removed from FINAL version of 2.27, and that is why all users of BS.Player received this notification in error.

Everything is fixed now (ie. no more notification screen displayed), but due to large number of downloads and page visits we received during this weekend, everything worked slower. That also is under control now.

We are trully sorry for any inconveniences our users might have experienced.

Simply download new version 2.27 to solve this problem.

Not working. I think we have to replace the numbers, but I don't know with what.
