Trying to figure out the same thing.
With many films, in Overlay one mode, the right side of the screen gets cut off (my TV is wider relative to its height than my monitor, so I think Overlay Mode 1 is imitating the ratio of the monitor)
In Overlay 2 mode, the full screen is used, but the film goes out of synch almost immediately, and trying to display subtitles causes BSPlayer to crash.
Dammit, I hate that black stripe down the side, and I know it wasn't there before I had to reinstall BSPlayer :(
