video mode overlay

hello,

i'm running a pentium 2 , 400 MHz piece of crap, movies seem to run smoothly as long as I don't have too many background applications running. My question is, what is overlay mode 2, same as mode 1? and why will VMR-9 not function even after I installed dx9? thanks
