what (and what version) do you use to play your movie ?
xvid ? ffdshow ?
what video codec is your movie supposed to be encoded with ? (you can check that using gspot)

Probably an old xvid decoder. Update it.

Default codecs

I'm using xvid 4.0 plus I downloaded the latest ffshow, dspd show, and my default player is bs player version 0.86. divx codec 5.03 and divx 3.11 alpha are also installed on my system.
gspot says that i have two compatible codecs for the film, namely, for the video; xvid 4-mpeg codec and decoder and for the audio; mpeg layer-3 codec and decoder.
lastly it didn't make any difference if i played from the harddisk.

There is not such thing as xvid 4 (xvid is an mpeg4 based codec). Latest oficial and stable version is 0.92. Ver 1 is in developement. So, update please xvid codec.
