hehe i know exactly what you mean, on my dads labtop we had the same problem but it turned out that there was a setting under the thinger...
rightclick desktop>properties>settings>advanced button>adapter tab (i think, one of these)>then you should be at some thing that has a computer screen and a tv screen on it, click the screen and somewhere there is like a frequency or something, like maybe ntsc and Pal, but the monitor has one and the tv thing is set to the other, flip them around and that should work... sorry i couldnt be more accurate but its been a while scince ive done this.
