Problems playing avis with Bsplayer

When I play an avi file from its location, the video lshows all sorts of multicolored squares. However, when I copy that file and place it in another location, I can watch it flawlessly.
I read it has something to do with temporary files, but I can't figure it out. Does anyone know something about this? thanks!
