Default Frame by Frame Screen Capture

I'm certain this has been asked in one form or another before; however, I was unable to find a topic that clearly discussed it in any I searched through.

So, here goes.

Is it possible to capture frame-by-frame? Ideally, I mean using arrow keys and whatnot. I've tried it while having the video paused, without sucess.

I am using a slightly older version. Could this be the cause?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

It can be done by using P or Shift+P and keeping it pushed for as long as you want to capture frames.
