persistent computer hang up playing movie

hi, here is my trouble

situation:
latest bsplayer version, win xp brand new reinstalled and updated
hw is amd xp 1700, 256 ddr ram
movies are on a linux box accessed truoght samba share on a 100mbit intranet as a network disk defined in xp

every time start playing movie ( tipically avi) after a random time , computer hangs up and HW reset is needed to recover.

any ideas how, where investigate ?

other player on the same machine has no problem ( 24 hour movie loop)
bios setting put as safe as possibel ...
