capture frame zero size

using v1.0 16 Jul 2004.

P or Shift+P produces a ZERO size jpg or bmp.

tried common suggestions in:

http://forum.bsplayer.org/viewtopic.php?p=14201#14201

such as overlay 1 and overlay 2. as well as software conversions disabled/enabled. also in video rendering tried 'disable yv12 format' on/off.. stop/start player, yet, always, get ZERO size jpg...

any other ideas?
