Grey screen with audio? / Sped up video speed?

In some of the .avi files I have it iwll display a grey screen while playing the audio correctly. I can play these in WMP with no problem. What can be done?

Other videos .avi files I have the speed is increased greatly while the audio is left at normal speed. Using the slow-down feature just screws it up and is not much of help. Hints anyone?

One more thing, why does going past 140% increased speed crash my player?

In Video preferences select "Use DivX 4 decoder for MP43, DIV3, DIV4. Then videos should play right. :D
