what it is film effects

in the settings divx, there is a film efects cursor ??

As far as I know, film effect is a filter that adds some noise to the image (it makes it "grainy").
It is supposed to mask the blocking and ringing effects that derive from compression, thus enhancing average quality of the image.

(P.S. I don't like, it, I prefer my image neat. Try it and make up your mind ;))
