playback rate change problem

Hi i have a question about bsplayers playback rates. I just downloaded bsplayer version 1.37 and i ama new user. When watching some old videos taht i used to watch in wmvi found that when i tried to adjust the playback rate it would not work. I found the 1/2x and 2x and such but when i choose these, the movie pauses for a second then continues to play at the normal 1x rate. When i choose 2x the 200% flashes in the upper left hand corner of my screen but the movie does not speed up. Also when i try to manually adjust the playback rate using shift + F6 the speed does not change. Anyone know what i am doing wrong or need to change? Thx for your time :)
