Not sure what version of Windows 98 you have here. (FE).....what's FE.??
Some field engineer version???

Anyway i am running straight Windows 98 4.10.1998. (With DirectX 9.0c).

All the versions people have mentioned so far are (FE/SE/ME/XP).
So i still believe it is a compatibility problem with straight Win98...and the problem is in the exe file........ "bsplayer.exe" when it does a call to an UNKOWN MODULE.....?????? 8)

J7N 27th March 2006 06:05 PM

I'm sorry if I misguided you. FE was meant as "first version" (=1998) as opposed to SE (=2222). It is possible that DX 9 cannot be used with Win98 4.10.1998. I had DX 8 installed.

Reminds me of Parite/Pinfi virus. ;)

There is NO problem with DirectX 8.1 or 9.0c..they all work fine with 1.36.825.....i even re-installed Windows 98 4.10.1998...... and bsplayer still fails with all versions above 1.36.825. So back to my original comment .....Compatibility problem with Win 98 4.10.1998.... in all versions above 1.36.825....with or without AdWare......!!!! :twisted:

adicoto 27th March 2006 06:52 PM

1.137.826 certainly doesn't have adware, it's the last "fully free" version. If this package is not working, then the problem is elswhere. Can you post here (from dxdiag utility) wich version of quartz.dll, mciqtz32.dll, mciavi32.dll do you have installed ?

Adicoto:

Yes.. you are right 1.37.826 does work ok...I forgot it is the last version to work as fully free version (except the video is flipped).

So to answer your question i am currently on DirectX 8.1 (Retail Version).

quartz.dll = 6.03.01.0889
mciqtz32.dll = 6.03.01.0400
mciavi32.dll = (This file does not exist with DirectX 8.1) using Windows 98.

So excluding 1.37.826 which works with video flipped bug (which i was aware of). All versions above this still fail. So the only good full version for me so far is still 1.36.825.

Is video flipped for any file .avi and .mpg? What filter/codec is BSPlayer actually using during playback? (last line of item (3) of my Help2Help-post).
:wink:

Magic920 28th March 2006 05:20 PM

BSPeter...

To answer your question about flipped video in version 137...it does not matter regarding my problem with 138-139-140-141. But the flipped problem was supposidly fixed in 138 as following notes say...

BSplayer and BSplayer Pro version 1.38 (b828) (14 Feb 2006)

config file is now saved in user home directory
fixed problem with resetting aspect ratio when movie was paused
fixed problem with aspect ratio in play list
with some files there was no audio if EQ was enabled, fixed
fixed problem with flipped video with some codec/files
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
audio files won't be restarted anymore after resolution change
some subtitle fixes
fixed problem with YV12 color space ('strange' colors)
won't crash anymore with mkv files and disabled subtitles
some fixes for frame capture
mute button wasn't working in full screen skins, fixed
some other bug fixes
So problem still exists with install failing for ver. 138-139-140 & now the new 141 also..... :?:
Remember that even SPs from.... can fix some bugs and bring.....many, many others.
Damn, I wish I had a spare computer to install an 98.
Now I'm trying to install a virtual machine, so in next future maybe I'll be able to test programs/settings on different OS without dual boot or other PCs..
I hope this will work, but first I have to retrieve OS installation discs :wink:
adicoto 28th March 2006 07:25 PM
I prefer a real machine, not a virtual one :)
Tizio 28th March 2006 07:32 PM
Me too, but unfortunally I can't buy another real machine :)
Congrats for your 2000+ posts!
Let's see, P III @ 933 / 256 MB, 20 GB should be in here about....120 Euro. Cheap deal. But just to install win98 ? No. But I think next week I do have to install a small network of 400-700 MHz machines. Maybe one of them will have an old, old win 1998. :)
I've jumped over 2000 ? I was never interested in that number. But now, that you mention it, I think it's time to think about my retirement. I am old, and tired. Leave a free space for the young and fast ones.
Tizio 28th March 2006 09:59 PM
Yes, maybe it's not so expensive, but remember that I'm still a student and the money I earn I spend to help my parents to pay my study..and buy another machine just to install Win98 it doesn't worth it :wink:
Noooooo :shock:
Do you want to retire and let us (younger but less expert.. and I have doubts regarding speed) without you knowledgeand and your support??
I hope not before 2010 :)
OK then, 7 posts is not a hard work to do.
Looks like i'll have to continue to use version 1.36.825 for now. Since it is the only stable version for Windows 98.
Maybe by Version 2.0 you'll have the incompatibility problems fixed.
Unless someone comes up with a brilliant answer in the mean time.
Keep me posted.
Thanks..
And surely no problem whatsoever this way indeed!
Perhaps a chatbox would be a good idea?
(Sorry, totally off topic, I agree :wink: )
Magic920 5th April 2006 06:01 PM
Do you think this problem might be fixed when Version 2.0 comes out...????
Let me know.
Thanks...§teve.. :lol:
adicoto 5th April 2006 06:58 PM
We all hope many problems to be solved by the new release. But from experience I can tell you that a new release will bring more bugs than to solve old ones. Keep your fingers crossed, maybe your problem will be solved. Or, in short time, when the new release will became mature (and BSPlayer's team usually moves faster - remember RCs from ver 1 !!) and most of the problems posted by users will be solved.
