Frame advance Is there a way to step forward and backward through a paused video one frame at a time with BSPlayer? |
Yes. Stop the video by pressing space and then use left/right arrow. This feature depends on the video decoder used to playback the file. Sometimes it doesn't work. |
Thanks! Is it possible to make a skin with buttons for this? I've only found buttons that make it jump 10 seconds in each direction. |

Go here and search for a skin of you preference, then (if it hasn't that feature) either follow skin documentation guide or use my SkinMaker to add that feature ;) |
I've actually made skins before. I just haven't found button functions to do a frame-by-frame movement like you can with the right and left arrows. |

Thanks, Tizio. I'll look for those functions. |
As referref to in my Help2Help-post: http://forum.bsplayer.org/viewtopic.php?p=14574#14574  BSP_Rew=14; Seek Backwards BSP_Forw=15; Seek Forwards |
I've been problems with that Pause step back/fort. I remember that different month ago I could it ad will without ANY kind of problems. Now there is no way to make it work with any kind of movie or vids I use. Any of you have some sudgestion about how to fix that problem? Cause the pause and the little step forth and back was totally aswesome to take clear screens |
As mentioned under MISCELLANEOUS item "(b) I wish to capture screens, but ... " of my Help2Help-post: Quote:
(Perhaps read last line of item (3) of my Help2Help-post.) |
I read it already and I understood it's a codec problem but still I would like to understand which one does that and which one does not. I'm using the fddshow since ages. Long before I never had problems cause I remember that the Pause funcion worked propely, maybe it's the update of the codecs that ruin it? Should I go back to plain dvix pack? |
I don't know it this can be a solution, but for seek problems sometimes re-registering quartz.dll do the trick.. |
I can try that, can you tell me how to do the re-register? |
|
Thanks. Just tried but it's like before, when I pause the video it's just move of one frame ahead and then nothing more. It doesn't move backward, just forth of 1 frame and nothing else... How I hate that, it was so good to pause and find the right frame to capture :( |

If this is not your actual problem, maybe check the Keyboard shortcuts in BS.Player preferences (CTRL+P -> Key definitions & WinLIRC -> Seek Backwards) |
I know that too. I was just saying this: I run a video. I stop the video. I can ONLY move a frame forward and cannot even go backward |
It would be very good to have that feature - to do frame by frame movement forward and backward. Sometimes you really need to play some videos frame by frame. I can remember, a few years ago I was using that feature a lot, but now it doesn't work at all. :( |
Could you try using "Overlay mixer" as "Rendering mode" under (rightclick >) Options > Preferences > Video > [Video rendering] |
Yes, I did. But it works in a different way. It moves forward or backward one by one second, but not frame by frame. :( Can you guys help me, please? I really need that feature. BSPlayer v.2.12 b.941 |

Testing under an XviD file. Forward works OK, no limits as far as I can see, but back goes only to the keyframe before the stop button was pressed. |

I've meanwhile been trying with older versions and with different settings of video rendering. E.g. BSPlayer 137.826 has the same result (steps by the second). Sofar, I've only been able to realize frame-by-frame using BSPlayer 0.86.501! This version is able to indeed flawlessly step frame-by-frame. (All versions use the same DivX codec). Sorry it seems I cannot help you any further on this right now. |
Tested with an mkv file, x264 video, frame by frame still working OK. Don't have any DivX later than 3.11 video file on my computer to test playback of DivX files using DivX decoder. |
Tested with XviD and DivX movies, paused the video and then moved forward/backward with the arrow keys. NO PROBLEM (XviD and DivX decoders used) ;) |
Another strange behaviour found instead  :o After I move forward by 1 (or more) frame, then just wait, BSplayer starts moving forward by 1 frame every 5 seconds, just by itself :o  EDIT: Test this one and then report, please, I'm really interested into this one  Good night, I have to sleep, tomorrow will be a loooooong day 8) |
I can confirm this behaviour. Good night, Tizio. Another 36 hours day ? :D |

BSPlayer v.2.20 v.949 Windows 2000 Pro |
You have the same problem as I do. I've tried every possible rendering mode and with several BS.Player-versions yesterday and to-day. If I use anything else then "Overlay mixer" the screen goes black (it does appear to step frame-by-frame, but only doesn't show it). The only BSPlayer version which will happily and without any problem (and using the same DivX codec) do frame-by-frame stepping instead of stepping by seconds is (as I wrote before) version 0.86.501. (You can install this version without any problem together with BSplayer 1.x or 2.x versions by the way; I have!) (P.S.: I'm using Geforce4/Nvidia) |
In case you want to give it a try, I quote a part of my Help-to-Help post: Quote:

BSPeter, thank you buddy for the old version of BSPlayer, It works! I hope to see that feature in a new version too. :) |
Glad I was able to help you! |

Probably the cause of the problem is the codec used. Can you check if v0.8x and v2.x use the same filters? :? I doubt it's graphic card related since adicoto (who uses ATI and Intel cards) and I (with Nvidia) haven't this problem, plus it works for both of you with older releases :? |

oops, sorry, missed that info  Strange, really an odd behaviour  |
Just tried by using DivX decoder (unfortunally I have v6.5 at this time since I had to test a codec pack with that version in it), but I have no problems in playing the movie frame-by-frame  EDIT: In my previou post I was referring to XviD and DivX ENCODED movies, instead now I tested with the DivX DECODER :P |
v2.x uses MS Qdvd.dll (directshow) overlay mixer. |
Can you also post wich exact decoding filter it's used ? Wich build of DivX decoder ? Interlacing, interlacing  |
