WMP and BSPlayer don't use the same...

WMP and BSPlayer don't use the same codecs\filters, and sometimes not in the same way.

.DAT extension is for MPEG1 (VCD)files .MPG...

.DAT extension is for MPEG1 (VCD)files
.MPG extension goes for MPEG2 (SVCD) files
Try to install an MPEG2 decoder, such as Elecard.
