color controls arent working

I want 2 change the brightniss of my movie cuz its very dark...But when I select color controls nothings happening...I dont even see the controls...so can somebody please help me...

Some more details:

I have Win XP, direct X 9a
I'm playing Xvid movies.

picture is OK video speed is OK.

Controls for color (like britness contrast and so on) are not working.

can you help me?

I think built in color controls can handle only movies decoded by original DivX codec by DivX Networks If you are watching XviD encoded movies you use another codec to watch them, so built-in controls can't work.

You can select your codec from Properties from Other Menu, where most likely will be these options available (like in ffdshow which I use).
