"overlay failed" and "can't create directdraw

iam running bsplayer under winXP and ive proberly installed directX 8.1
but wenn ive been loading a movie i got "overlay failed". After ive pressed ok the failure "Can't create direct draw surface" is shown...
what can i do ?!

You can try overlay mode 2. sometimes it works sometimes it don't.
I have the same problem and i made some flames about it. But nobody cares.
You can try and rgb overlays, but they make more cpu usage.

I have the same problem: Neither overlay mode 1 nor mode 2 works. Only RGB mode works.
In mode 1 it only shows a black screen and in mode 2 it says "overlay failed".
Till yesterday everything worked fine.
I had the message "overlay failed" sometimes before (when I used several players at the same time) but then it worked anyway. Probably it changed automatically to RGB mode or something.
I don't know what happened, that overlay does not work anymore now.

On this post Mike has found that, despite the drawbacks, forcing resolution with BSPlay could help to use mode 1.
