Default Can't change volume!

This is quite something right from the twilight zone.

After I installed the new version of BSPlayer (0.86), I was very happy that the volume-control was linear and not logarithmic anymore (well on my soundcard it was that you couldn't almost hear anything when the volume was at 70% and it was very loud at 100%)

Well, okay, the volume-control was working the way I expected it to work.
But this worked just for the very first time.

Now, the volume controls don't work anymore, volume is always unaffected by the volume setting. It also seems that I'm the only one around here having this problem.

Btw, I have a "Hoontech DSP Value" soundcard that has only emulated support for DirectX, because it is designed for audio-production. There is also a mixer application "EL.EXE" running in the background.
But I also tried BSPlayer without that program running, it still won't work.

Hm, what went wrong?![/b]

Somehow you have lost the audio codec. Sometimes windows do that. Install the mp3 codec (l3codeca.acm) an ac3 filter and all should work ok.

Hm, I don't think that it's related to the codecs, because I have almost all codecs and they work fine, also when running bsplayer. It's just that I can't control the volume. It always plays at maximum volume and I can't change it! I can even chose from 3 different AC3 codecs.

So what could it be else?

But the sound level can be controlled from the mixer ?
In options, preferencies, audio, output what device is selected ?
It seems that your soundcard have some bugs in DirectSound support and a bad implementation of drivers for win2k and winxp.

Oh wow... now I see!

Actually, meanwhile, I installed DX retail version instead of DX debug
(I'm programming on some DX programs), and now, BSplayer offers me DirectSound outputs also (they weren't there before!)
And of course, THEY WORK!

Thank you very much! I wouldn't have looked twice...
