1.0 Build 803 bug thread :-)

Starting another one of these coz I still encountered loads of bugs. See other thread for things still open last here

NOTE: I'm testing with ogm files mostly.

GENERAL:
* OSD drawing on overlay only works correcty on vmr9, on overlay 1/rgb OSD centers & has (just a little) washed out colors. On overlay 2 no drawing to overlay.
* changing volume with the bar doesn't show osd message, only when using +/-
* Frame Captures only work correctly in vmr9, doesn't work at all in overlay 2, and in the other modes the image that is captured is not the same one as you see, especially the color. I was only able to capture correctly by disabling overlay alltogether and just pressing print-screen.
* VMR9 has less vibrant colors than the other overlay modes.
* Image/captures illustrating the above mentioned points (red writing is what I added)
* Switching overlays almost always fatal error, have to restart player to take effect. Closing video file is only way not to crash. Sadly, it only asks for closing the video file if selecting RGB overlay.
* Still very annoying info box in preferences, see other thread.
* The double click switching from full screen to window decreases volume by four percent bug u prolly seen already. This is fixed by deleting the association Volume Down = Left Mouse + Wheel Down, in key definitions.

SUBTITLES
* general bugs:
-error drawing full screen skin after selecting custom place for subtitles, with fatal error occuring at right click or switching to window mode. This only when not drawing to overlay.
-Transparant erratic behaviour same as in 0.86, only transparant at random times
-Subtitles do not work AT ALL in vmr9
-OGM subtitles do not work in any overlay mode here (fatal crashes), with some very erratic behaviour especially in overlay 1 (can post screenshots if wished).
* bugs with subtitles in overlay 2:
-no ogm subtitles (but no crash)
-draw subtitles on overlay doesn't work

PLAYLIST
* a playlist ONLY in text format AND with relative paths doesn't get loaded correctly if a video file in another location is already playing. It loads the playlist in the playlist editor, but the files are not found by bsplayer, and it keeps playing the file that was already open.
* Playlist new features don't get saved in text modes and modes with absolute paths, only in internal mode/relative path.
* Some of the new features don't get applied on back button, uses same settings as previous video
* Fullscreen option only works for setting fullscreen, if the next video doesn't have fullscreen set, it will still display fullscreen instead of windowed.
--> this may be needed for older text playlists, but should be an option in general options.

There's a bunch more that needs testing (skin support, bsi's, ...), but don't have any more time now.

Sintel 25th November 2003 03:56 PM

Did some rewriting of english language file, changed:
*consistency ('Audio Streams' vs 'Video streams', 'Pan-Scan' vs 'Pan&Scan', etc.)
*typo's (search original language file for things like 'remeber', 'snaped', 'bookamrk', 'choosen', 'bellow', 'this options' instead of 'these options', 'spport', 'bo' instead of 'be', 'porcessing', 'files(s)' and whatever I forgot...)
*rephrased some options & info boxes for clarity (removed info box where not needed).
You can download new language file here (was gonna post all typo's first, but that would just be more work for bst & crew so did the thing myself :)).

MORE BUGS
* Fatal error occurs when 'disable subtitles' is enabled, on ogm files with subtitles.
* When selecting "Manual Correction" under subtitles, ONLY on an ogm file with embedded subtitles, my pc freezes and a restart is required.
* NITPICK :): When going over Audio in preferences dialog, it doesn't get underlined, while all the other options do...
* 'Transparant subtitles' is not in the preferences dialog, only in the right-click menu.

Also put in red the bugs that are fixed from my previous thread (see post above for link), the ones that aren't I think are still open ;)

ndj55 25th November 2003 05:46 PM

2 audio streams, 2 subtitles streams OGM file:
-Error Message "Can't Open File" when overlay != VMR9
-Crash when overlay == VMR9

Sol-Badguy 25th November 2003 09:04 PM

You can simply press CTRL to hide infos and release it to see infos about items under your mouse (if they are present).
Try it! :)

Thanks man, you have no idea how welcome that piece of info was :-)

Nice to heard it
I wanted to tell it to you in your previous thread, but then I forget to do it!!
Sorry for my late reply...

Bye! :)

with build 803, I can't change the volume in fullscreen mode (with keyboard or mouse). it does not happen with the previous release.

I noticed that change, too. You have to go to 'Key definitions & WinLIRC' in the Preferences and define your keys/mouse controls for the volume.

Same answer, Bones. Under 'Key definitions & WinLIRC' in the Preferences there's separate key definition tabs for 'Windowed mode' and 'Full screen mode'.

Sintel 26th November 2003 03:32 PM

Hmm i may have to recall 2 bugs, I mean they are there but not all the time??

The "vibrant color" bug in vmr9, sometimes the output IS identical to the other overlay modes.

Audio underlining in preferences, i tried again today and it was underlined, HOWEVER, i'm using another skin now so maybe it could be related? (used mediabox v2 yesterday)

MRAc 26th November 2003 05:45 PM

Also one bug: if I in fulscreen, playlist is under the video window.... (bsp1.0.803)

need a good view, though. why aren't the both set the same by default ?

Tannah 26th November 2003 11:36 PM

anyone else noticed in preferences intervideo AC3 no longer seem to save its setting, or have any noticeable effect on the audio (yes the intervideo decoder is selected in audio)

Pixell 27th November 2003 07:40 AM

When I use frame by frame stepping sometimes I got thrown back to the beginning of the movie :(

prut 27th November 2003 02:50 PM

First movie I tried to open gave me a BSOD.
Never had probs like this with the old versions, but both the 800 and 803 of 1.0 crashed my pc quite well.
Unfortunately I didn't write down the error codes.

tupac7 27th November 2003 04:58 PM

Not really a bug, but still important:

BSPlayer version 1.00 RC803 is VERY slow! I have harddisk with 7200/min P4 with 2.66Ghz, 786DDR-RAM etc. SO THIS should be enough on playing videos... I hope BST will continue working on it, cause 0.8x versions are very buggy but fast and this new one is the opposite..

Cant we have a BSPlayer with few bugs and good performance :?:

I don't know which version you've been testing, but I don't think it's 'slow' or slower than 0.86...

Well, you already have: BSPlayer 0.86... If you like it better than 1.0, stick to that version (and I don't even think it has many bugs at all)... Isn't it kinda silly to ask for a bugged program?

Dracula 27th November 2003 09:23 PM

(double post, got forum error message about template notify)

Imis21 28th November 2003 11:11 AM

Multi monitor, fullscreen video window postion

BSplayer 1.0 (b803) not remember monitor for fullscreen video window. Always vidow window appear on default monitor and it not in fullscreen.

There is no way to check option "Remmemger last movie postion", this setting always disabled.

P.S. Look like BSplayer 1.0 will be best player ever. :D

JemyM 28th November 2003 02:01 PM

BSPlayer confuses "Mouse Left-Doubleclick" with "Mouse Left+Wheel Down". This means that when trying to go into full screen by doubleclicking the window, the volume is lowered instead.

This is also true when trying to reassign "Full Screen Switch" option.

This was tested with an Intellimouse Explorer mouse.

Also, you cannot unselect registered filetypes, they are reset as soon as you close the preferences window. (BSPlayer keeps stealing mp3!!! :P)

For me it IS slow.

And I dont like 0.86 better. It is too buggy and you can't see for example streaming videos.
1.00 has got less bugs. (It is still buggy. If you had any idea of programming, you would know, that there is NO PROGRAMM ever with no bugs.)

Yeah in mode 1 it looks like it using old OSD functions...

They do work here in overlay mode 1 - at least in some resolutions...
Works fine with source video width of 320, 512, 576 ,640...
but for width 352,416, 672,704 OSD and subtitles are broken if there is "draw on overlay" enabled for them. Looks like a line-width alignment problem. And widht 352 + 704 are VERY common ones...

For width 160 no OSD is drawn at all.

Unfortunatly I have to agree BSplayer 1.00 RC1 build 803, is very CPU intensive, under the formats I watch. it even makes movies that play smoothly in older version of BSplayer jumpy and choppy. the primary codec I use is FFDshow. at times it even knocks the AVI's out of sync with the audio. Unfortuatly due to this and the problem I mentioned above.
I personly don't feel that The current BSplayer is Relece Canadate material, it strikes me more as a mid development Beta. Perhaps BSplayer should adopt a development tree simaler to Mozilla?

Has anyone else had any luck with the nightly builds? I see the option to download them but never have..

Sintel 30th November 2003 01:22 PM

Indeed this seems to be the case. I was only testing with one source ogm that i knew was good. Never thought video width would have an influence on it!

joe935 1st December 2003 01:08 AM

803 will not play a different video file.
I can play a mpg file but when the file ends and I select another file to play, a portion of the first file will start to play and then stop but the second file is never played. I have removed 803 and gone back to 800 which does not have the problem.
Closing BSplay and restarting it does not always allow a different video to be played.

r3pl1cat0r 1st December 2003 11:15 AM

BSplayer crashes when you start it after it is decompressed with upx.

I prefer non-compressed executables because they compress better with 7zip.

Sintel 3rd December 2003 01:50 AM

Noticed the playlist doesn't auto progress, you need to press "next". It repeats the same video if you let it end (just set the progress bar a few seconds before ending of video).

This occurs with ogm files, i do not know if it is confined to those kind of files
