I only see stripes..

When playing .mpg or .avi files with BS Player, I only see stripes & weird boxes (see pictures below). Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? I should have all the codecs I need and the same files play perfectly on WinDVD. I see flashes of the clear picture every now & then though.
