skin resets when trying to load file while playing?

whenever i try to open/play an avi when i'm currently watching something the skin resets to normal and the file doesn't load (the file i was currently watching continues playing). this only happends when loading avi (fine with mpegs), can anyone help?

I have a similar problem, but it's not related to just .avi files.

Anytime I have a movie playing and I double-click in Explorer to launch another movie, the skins get all messed up. The location of the elements remains the same, but they revert to the gray square default skin. This is definately not good.

I can drag files to the player without incident, however...
