Default Problems playing avi(xvid?)

I have been trying to play a movie file, but when I open it up I get the message:

Unknown File Format (XVID)

The movie file, however, is avi...

Under the .avi format you can use different compresion formats. XviD is one of them. You just need to install an XviD decoder:

Thank you very much...I had accidentally downloaded the Xvid source code instead of a binary--it's working fine now
