subtitles within mkv playback?

can someone explain what i need for showing subs in matroska with bsplayer... i have problems currently - subs are displayed on black background (bsplayer sub preferences are set OK) taking almost all of video window ( so its not watchable)...

Maybe other subtitle direct show filter interfering?
Check for filter chain when playing file (under options).
Find names like ffdshow? Or vsfilter?
By clicking on them you may enter filter properties.

Bsplayer itself should normally not have difficulties to detect subs in matroska files...
