How to use Pan&Scan ?

Hi,

I've been playing around with the Pan&Scan option and I realized that it actually 'zooms' in on the centre of the picture. But I was thinking, what if the important details are actually at the sides that are being 'cut off'? How can I 'zoom in' on the sides when something in the movie is happening there?
