From the information on the page it appears that
Quote:
BS.Player ControlBar is completely safe to install and use: it is unobtrusive, easy to deactivate and uninstall, and does not transmit any information in a manner that can identify a user (such as a name or an E-mail address, ensuring complete anonymity for users).
I don't know (yet) if BS.Player remains working after uninstalling (simply using Window's "Software") its controlbar, but you could always try.

Default BS.Player FREE 2.30 and BS.Player ControlBar

BS.Player FREE 2.30 (and later versions) work with or without BS.Player ControlBar installed on computer.

However, we would encourage all BS.Player users to install BS.ControlBar and actually use it and by doing so support future BS.Player development.

Default BS.Controlbar instalation options

@gate1975mlm: There is a installer option: Install BS.ControlBar, if you choose not to uninstall it simply uncheck it and BS.ControlBar will not be installed and your BS.Player FREE 2.3 will still be fully functional.

This is really great news! I totally gave up on BS Player. But now the ads are optional, I will start using it again :D Though I will install it beside my other media players.

If Pro Lite would've included DVD playback, I would have bought a license.

Also, I have no use for a toolbar. I like my opera as I have it now. Small and without any toolbar. Luckily the toolbar doesn't support Opera at all :p Installing it is just a waste of MBs here. (The rare moments I need IE, I just use my own browser which also doesn't support IE toolbars)

@elf_sander: "But now the ads are optional..."

Nope, the ads are not optional, AS THERE AREN'T ANY in version 2.30.

There is absolutely NO ads/adware in BS.Player 2.30, there is only BS.ControlBar (toolbar without ads) and you have an option not to install it during BS.Player FREE 2.30 instalation. (uncheck option BS.ControlBar).

Define ads:
Ads are optional applications, which are in some cases are unwanted, that need to be installed in other programs. And work as parasites, offering none or almost none additional features.

IE/FireFox already have a search feature. The only added feature is the controls for the player. Which is great, but isn't BS.Player a video player? Video is always on the screen and so are the controls in the video window. This makes the controls in the controlbar obsolete.

So both the search and control features are obsolete, making the toolbar obsolete. So all remains is the always visible logo of "BS.Player" and an ad for your search engine, which really looks like it's powered by Google.

Is it ad-supported? Yes, but this time it's an ad created by the developpers of the program. Is that ad optional? Luckily, yes! Is there any difference with a third party ad? Yes, but that doesn't make it any better.

But it doesn't matter, it's optional now.

Default BS.Player the best multimedia player

@elf_sander: Your argumentation is not very solid.

"Ads are optional applications, which are in some cases are unwanted, that need to be installed in other programs. And work as parasites, offering none or almost none additional features. "
Where do you get such unique definitions? Please go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advertisement to read more and maybe add your own definition of term Ad = Advertisment to Wikipedia.

Our understanding of the "ads" or web advertising is:
- pop up ads
- pop down ads
- hover ads
- banners of any type
- behavioral marketing
- junk mail...
BS.Player 2.3 does not include any of the above mentioned methods of advertising, we only display our logo in the toolbar (if installed) and display our search page with our logo and set Quick search provider to www.bsplayer-search.com.

"Which is great, but isn't BS.Player a video player?"
BS.Player is a video player, but not only that, did you notice that you can play mp3s, oggs, wma and many other audio formats? In this cases control buttons in your browser can be very handy, not to mention many diverse cases, when this can be usefull - watching windowed videos while surfing...

"Video is always on the screen and so are the controls in the video window".
Not true - if you resize video window to any size less than full screen, then playback buttons will not appear in video window.

"So both the search and control features are obsolete, making the toolbar obsolete"
Search is obsolete? From where you get that notion?

Your claim that BS.Player 2.3 has "ads" is misleading and incorrect. Also it may be misinterpreted that BS.Player 2.3 has "adware" in it, which it doesn't.

BS.Player 2.3 has absolutely no ADS or ADWARE included in it.

Default Norton and McAffe web site

Placio thank you for pointing that out, but it has been only 7 days from release of BS.Player 2.3 without adware, they will probably fix that in upcoming days...

We will request re-evaluation.

Default bsplayer website and siteadvisor rank

It has been more than 2 months now, and siteadvisor.com still doesnt want to check our version 2.3 for adware/malware and re-evaluate rank for our webpages bsplayer.com and .org... but they fail to do so, i wonder what might be stopping them? Siteadvisor.com is not a very up-to-date service, at least it would seem so from our experience. We have contacted them on numerous emails, but we got no reply.

Maybe you - BS.Player users - can ask them to evaluate version 2.30 (or later) on their website:

http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/bsplayer.com
and here:
http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/bsplayer.org

Maybe that will get their attention, at the moment they refuse to do so.
