How about making use of an increased "Playback rate"?
(rightclick > Playback > Playback rate)
Or - in (redefinable) shortcuts - e.g.:
Ctrl+F5 - Fast forward (x2)
Ctrl+F6 - Fast rewind
Shift+F5 - increase playbackrate by 10% (can be used repeatedly)
Shift+F6 - decrease playbackrate by 10%

(Note default shortcuts and WinLIRC "keys" can be customized/redefined; see rightclick > Options > Preferences > "Key definitions & WinLIRC")
