(1) "remember the current time to get back to ..."
rightclick > Options > Preferences > General [General settings]
Option (checkbox) "Remember last movie position"

(2) "Maybe even put some time tags on the timeline"
rightclick > Bookmarks > Add bookmark
Next time you play the movie:
rightclick > Bookmarks
now simply click on the number/time of the bookmark to jump to it.
