Could be you don't have the codec as used for that particular movie installed or that the file is corrupted.
Can you play the movie in question in WMP or in VLC?
Assuming that it is an .avi, please check which codec is used by that movie with e.g. GSpot (see 2nd item of my Help-to-Help post as linked to at the bottom of this post).
If it's not an .avi but an mpg/mpeg, you probably need an appropriate mpeg-codec. Have a look at adicoto's list of codecs

Default Error: Can't open file

Hi,

I can't open certain mp3 files. All I see is an error message.

In the playlist, for the files I can't open, it displays that the quality is 0kbits.

I can play these mp3s on winamp and itunes but not vlc.

These mp3s are slightly older than the others I have, the more recent ones work fine, could that have something to do with the problem?

I've downloaded and installed the entire k-lite mega codec pack

If this topic has already been covered you please post the link. I've searched on the forums but only find opening problems with video files.

Thankyou
Farhan

First thing I would think of in such situation, is that the five newer avi's could require a codec of later date than the one installed on my PC. Any idea what codec was used to create these avi's? (Check out e.g. using GSpot; see 2nd item of my (ancient) Help-to-help post, a link to which is at the bottom of all my posts)

Hi again,

But what about older files, shouldnt BSPlayer be able to play those and shouldn't the more recent codec also be able to handle older files?

Thanks

Yes, I agree with you: the more recent codec should indeed be able to do that. Now, which codec exactly are you referring to out of all codecs and other "goodies" included in the mega codec pack you installed? In fact mp3 shouldn't be a problem as - to my knowledge - mp3-support comes with Windows, so no special codec would normally be required. Perhaps something a bit messed up your codecs. Did you already use GSpot (see 2nd item of my Help-to-Help file) to find out more about the codec of these files?
Perhaps also have a look at this post (FAQ at DivXmovies.com).

General note and advice with respect to use of codec-packs:
By using codec-packs you will be tempted to install more than necessary. In this connection please note that more surely isn't equivalent to better. To the contrary!! The art is knowing to restrict yourself!
In most situations, you do not need to install codec/filter packs and certainly not every codec/filter and application that comes with these packs. In fact, you may run into problems if you install too many codec/filters on your computer. It is highly recommended that you only install the codec/filters that you need, so be very selective!
Note there is nothing against selectively using codec-packs as a source as such .... However, do make sure to always make good use of the possibility offered by them to deselect = unselect elements before installing!! However, I personally think it is still better to separately download and install the various elements you need. Then you can also separately and individually install, uninstall and/or upgrade them (instead of having to do that as part of a whole pack).

Hi,

I'm sorry to bother you again, but I don't think it was the codecs. I found another pattern to the problem.

First I did  install every codec in the codec pack but then I read your post and selected different combinations of only what I needed. That didn't help.

In the playlist at the bottom right corner, there's some information. Over there it's written that these songs are MPEG1 layers 1 or 3 , 0 kbits, 15Hz

I don't know much about MPEGs so I'll go read up on that but could it be a problem with the way BSPlayer handles files?

Thanks for all the trouble

Could you please upload here one of this files or send a bit of it to me by mail ?
Winamp uses it's own dll's to decode MP3.
By the way, what say Winamp about those files (ID tag and bitrate)

I can't add an mp3 attachment here so I'll just email it to you.
Winamp and iTunes agree on the bitrate. I'm not sure about the 1D3 tags.
The song is in Japanese so you might not understand it. :?

1. You can archive the file to a .zip
2. You can change the extension from .MP3 to .zip
3. I don't intend to understand the words. I want to play it and see if I can find a solution. :D

It now says that the attachment is too big!
I don't have any smaller file and I don't know how to chop off a bit and send it to you.

First impresion:
All other players I have (winamp and wmp) do play the file OK.
Neither Fraunhofer nor Moonlight MP3 decoder didn't help playing the file.
Mesage is "Can't open file".
Ver 0.86 didn't bother to give any message.
EncSpot assume Fraunhofer or Fastencoder to be the source of the file.
Keep trying.

I started droping mp3 files over BSPlayer (my files). One of them did give an error:

BSplayer v1.00.810, Unhandled exception at EIP: 774A668B

Happy, I tryied to drop the file again. No error. Finally I discovered that always the 9th file give this error. So it seems to be a bug concernig the way BSPlayer conects to MP3 decoder.
