BSPeter is on a distinguished road
Default

(rightclick >) Recent files > Clear history.
You can set/adjust the number of items to keep in history under:
(rightclick >) Options > Preferences > General > [General settings]
just at right of the Close-button: "History items to keep"

Default The same problem

I refered to the history that appears when the open window appears under the "file name" drop down list not the history that appears at right click -> recent files. I put on the right click->options->preferences->general, 1 (this is the minimum) at the vaule of "history items to keep" and no result. The history is still there.

OK. I did indeed misread your post.
Now I understand.
(Not a BS.Player issue but one of Windows-OS).
Thanks for sharing with us the solution which you found.
