Default Subtitles delays

In many films the subtitles don't run exactly at the good time, so I use the delay function (SHIFT <- and SHIFT ->) for positioning them right.

But a few minutes later, I have to change the delay again, because they keep running not synchrone with the movie.

Is this a bitrate issue or something? What can be done about it?

No, the framerate is different. You can convert subtitles from a framerate to another using subtitle tools. I used Subadjust, and now Subtitles Translator. If the movie is at 23.976 frames per second (fps) and the subtitle at 29.97 fps, after few seconds they get delayed (movie reaches the frame number 47=2 seconds but the subtitle isn't here yet 2seconds=frame 60.

Then is not the right frame rate.
OR !!
By any chance, do you have build 808-30.04.2004 ?
By any chance do you have an older BSPlayer installed ? Like 0.86-501. Is it the same problem ? Because I have some problems with the new build that don't recognize well the framerate for some movies.

What type of subtitles are we talking about? (Also can you read the file in e.g. Notepad?)
Possibly the subtitle-file itself is not correct. Often downloaded subtitle files not only need a time-shift but also need to be "stretched" or "shrinked". For text-based subtitle files I always use Vladimir's subsync which is a very simple and basic utility, which does the job it is supposed to do perfectly for only three types of subtitlefiles, i.e. SAMI, SubRib and MicroDVD or .smi, .srt and .sub. Other subtitle utilities are (i.a.) SubtitleWorkshop (which covers a huge number of subtitle-types and has a lot more options and possibilities) and SubMax, but I've no real experience with those.

The problem with using SubSync, is that you've already seen the beginning and the end of the movie (when positioning the subtitles).

When you've seen the last part of the movie, this can ruin the whole plot.
