As mentioned in lots of posts, in the FAQ and in my Help2Help-post ( item (4)) we generally advise AGAINST the use of codec packs (expecially if they are the MEGA-ones). With respect to color-controls my Help2Help-post refers to this post. (What filter/codec is used for playback?)
