How can I change the font and size of DVD subtitle?

Using BSPlayer 2.53(and many other versions + different programs), the subtitle is really ugly.
It's some kind of Arial bold with really rough edges.
In one word: ugly. And huge.

While playing a dvd movie, it seems that going to Options->Preferences->Subtitles-> Font and size and changing the values, doesn't affect the DVD subtitle. On a regular avi, mkv, wmv,etc it works fine, but not for dvd's.
And, in some movies the subtitle is red blue, sometimes even a pale yellow.

Is there a way to change it?

If not, please consider this an update suggestion. I hate dvd subtitles.
