Default [SOLVED] Can't open .avi files

My BSweet Player can't open .avi files. The characteristics of my system are these :

Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHZ, WinXP SP2
NVidia G-Force 6600, Driver version 6.14.11.7519, 16/05/2008
BSplayer Pro V2.12 , build 941, 16/10/2006
DivX 6.8.4.1
ffdshow video decoder tryouts revision 2033 27/6/2008
DirectX 9.0c

Although any other type of video file (mkv, wmv, mpeg, mpg, vob) works perfectly OK with BSweet, something goes wrong with .avi files and I get the error message shown in the pic. The strange thing is that .avi files play OK using other players I have, and believe me, I have a LOT of them (Winamp, VLC, MicroDVD, PowerDVD, Media Player Classic, Zoom etc). The .avi files I'm trying to play are encoded with codecs like DivX 4/5/6 and XVID MPEG4.

I tried E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G suggested in the FAQ section. I had the K-Lite Codec Pack and the latest DivX version installed (BSPlayer included in the KLite pack doesn't open them also). As you recommend, I removed them, had the registry cleaned up with CCleaner, then installed DivX 3.11 alpha and the latest version of ffsdshow. As for the codec verifying programms that you suggest, they mutually contradict each other. For example, for an certain file, both Video Inspector and AVICodec say that the video and audio codecs are properly installed, but the file doesn't open. For another file, AVICodec says the video codec is missing, but Video Inspector says the video codec is OK. Any help would be REALLY appreciated.

First reaction: uninstall bloated DivX6.8.4.1.
Question: what codec/filter is BS.Player using for this (these) file(s)?
(rightclick >) Options > Filters > Advanced

Already tried DivX5.2.1 or Xvid or latest regular (<>tryout) ffdshow?

Tryouts is the currently developed branch of ffdshow. The original versions released by Milan Čutka are long obsolete now. Support for new formats has been added.

Default CANNOT OPEN .AVI FILES

I cannot check the filter options of an .avi file, since it cannot open it. If it helps, i send the filter options of a .mpeg file that can play OK. I only have installed ffdshow tryouts revision 2073 11/08/2008. I also send the reports of GSpot about an .avi file that doesn't open with BS. Thanks for your interest.

I noticed that too. I wonder which bot does that. Besides those lists were meaningless as they showed VFW/ACM modules only, and not DirectShow.

Where is the GSpot report you mentioned?

INstall Haali media splitter. It should be able to takeover avi splitting and solve the problem. If Haali it's allready installed, try to uninstall and then quartz.dll should get back to split the files. Either way, the problem probably was generated by the codec pack.

Seems you are running very old versions of everything. I suggest you update BS.Player to the latest version. Also get an up-to-date copy of the codec pack.

Broken AVI playback can often be fixed this way:
StartMenu > Run > regsvr32 quartz.dll

Default Can't open .AVI files - SOLVED !!!

Since Haali Media Splitter and "regsrv32 quartz.dll" did not work, I downloaded and installed K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 4.17. AVI files now open and play OK. Thanks a lot for your interest !!!
