Default problems with viewing video-cd's

since a while i have been having problems with watching video-cd's.
bsplayer can't open practically any of them and i even installed media player to try the video-cd's on, but that doesn't work either.
if it's a codec-thing: i have installed the tsunami-codec-pack 3.97.

can anybody help me? by the way, my version of bsplayer is 0.86b496.

If you're only playing VCD's and/or SVCD's, you need an MPEG Video Decoder (not to confuse with mp3).
Unfortunately I don't know the Tsunami Codec pack (that's to say I don't know what codecs it holds and I also like to keep it that way). From what I saw at the DivX-digest page it doesn't seems too recent to me though (2 August 2002!). Therefore I don't know what codecs you may have installed (hopefully not the full pack). I just repeat the suggestion of the relevant page of Divx-digest, i.e.
Quote:
Suggestion : In most situations, you do not need to install codec/filter packs and certainly not every codec/filter that comes with these packs. In fact, you may run into problems if you install too many codec/filters on your computer. It is Highly recommended that you only install the codec/filters that you absolutely need.
I would advise to use Avicodec or GSpot to find out what you need. Have a look at Help to Help hereunder (that post will also tell you that you haven't got latest BSPlayer's version).

When posting always mention your computer's OS and the version and build number(!) of BS.Player as used by you,
as well as - if applicable and especially when encountering problems - the type(s) of the file(s) mentioned in your post.

The message I get from BSPlayer is: "Unknown File Format ()"

Both AVIcodec and GSpot can't find out what the codecs are. AVIcodec provides me with the message: "Opening Error The Source filter for this file could not be loaded for L:\MPEG2\AVISEQ01.MPG".
GSpot just says he couldn't find any codecs...

Again, I have this problem with a lot of my VideoCD's.

You need an MPEG2 codec. Search for elecard MPEG2 codec.

I just happened to see it's included in K-Lite codec pack (full version) which you can download here.
With respect to codec-packs please note that the art is knowing to restrict yourself!
In this connection I would like to repeat the advice on DivX-digest download page:

In fact, you may run into problems if you install too many codec/filters on your computer. It is highly recommended that you only install the codec/filters that you absolutely need.
I would suggest you to follow this advice anytime!

Thanks BSPeter and adicoto! I uninstalled all codecs, installed the Nimo Codec Pack b8 (it had 2 codecs I needed that weren't in the KaZaA-LiTe-pack) with only the codecs I needed and downloaded the Elecard MPEG2-codec.

Everything works fine now, thanks again!
