Please check type of video (codec used) with GSpot or AviCodec.
Look in second item of post Help to Help (click on link hereunder)

Try to download sove of divx-player.It includes a divx-codec-when installing player and codec installer asks what you want install-player and codec. You can choose codec and its ready to install it.Download it at divx.com page (as I remember there is divx alpha player x.xx ver-download it and try it! If that is impossible try to search from the web some link to divx codec download...GOOD LUCK!

I have exactly the same problem!
When I open a film on BSplayer, I have this message:
unknown file format (DIVX)
I already donwloaded the codec from AviCodec as you have told and it doesn't work anymore...
What can I do?

AviCodec (as well as GSpot) is not a codec but an application which you can use to establish which codec you need for a particular avi file.
I personally use GSpot. Just drag the movie to the opened application and it will check what codec you need and if you've got it installed (also press render-button).
Come back with the information provided if necessary.
