preferences corruption (BSPlayer.name.xml) >bsp 1.35.823 (has happened with all versions for as long as i can remember) >win xp sp2 (happened with win 98 also) >(has happened on both computers i've used bsplayer with) >(has happened for years and on three different hard drives) ---- i can set custom aspect ratios and key definitions and they work fine while i have bsplayer open. when i reload bsplayer, my custom aspect ratios _might_ be there but the key definitions are almost always changed (seemingly randomly, often with overlapping hotkeys). all subsequent reloads of bsplayer will have NO custom ARs and the key definitions will continue to change. i have worked around this in the past by setting up bsp, then closing it, then setting the preferences XML file to read-only. this is very annoying when i want to change any setting in the preferences, though. in fact, i always keep a backup of a working XML file because i have these problems with this program. if i have a working XML, then i turn OFF read-only, then i load bsplayer, the settings will be corrupted. this leads me to believe that bsplayer attempts to screw up the XML before it reads it. i believe all settings other than AR and key defs remain intact. ---- has anyone experienced this? does anyone have any clue what could be causing this? what other info can i give to help diagnose? thanks in advance |

Have you tried to delete all BSplayer keydefinitions before reassigning it new keyboard shortcuts? Can you try my program BSP Definitions Manager (link in my sign)? It's designed to work with BSplayer v1.37 and previous, so I don't suggest you to use it with v1.38 and v1.39 yet until I update it. Anyway make a backup of your settings before you use it..

Remember, definition files moved to the Document and settings folder, no more in install folder. So new builds can't use files from install folder. By the way, does anybody know where is Dump.txt coming from ? :D Seems like somebody droped this file in the installer by mistake. |

My program is able to open also preferences files located in different folders from the default one! But it's not compatible with BSplayer's new versions since there are nex keydefinitions defined now... I have not any Dump.txt file  Which version have you installed? 1.39 Pro? Doesn't it has been created when you tried the mkv files and produced those accurate lists of operations? :? Where is it located? in BSplayer installation dir or in the users one? (anyway I think in the install dir )

Well :? It's really strange, I never found such a file in my install dir.. Maybe you can see which process has access to that file by monitoring it with utilities from Sysinternal.. I don't know if Filemon is able to do this, but maybe you can filter only to see BSplayer process (in Filemon), then open an MKV file and see if that file is accessed.... Otherwise try to filter out BSplayer and see which process write to the Dump.txt file..

I am no longer able to reproduce the problem with hotkeys. Now I remember that I didn't actually experience it on WinXP, only on Win98 and Win98SE. Could be something with Unicode.. The computers running 98 & 98SE were very different, and had only YMF724 soundcard in common. Right now I am using WinXP with 3 weeks uptime and it is impossible to shut down ATM to test Win98. Edit: Couldn't make this bug appear again on Win98SE again. :( |

@adicoto mmhm.. then try to crash you pc with an MKV error (lol, just kidding ) :P Other processes accessing those files? @J7N I don't know.. maybe.. as you can't restart your pc to test with Win98, I can't restart to test with XP :P
