BSPlayer main window does not appear I registered on this forum because I have a problem with BSPlayer. I am using it for a long time and never had any problems until now. The problem is this: when I press enter on a movie from Total Commander or Explorer, the main window does not show at all. The movie starts to play in it's window, and a button is created on the taskbar for BSPlayer, but the main window is nowhere to be seen. If I press "h" to toggle "Show/Hide the main window", all it happens is the button for BSPlayer dissapears from taskbar and appears in system tray as an icon. Now, I formatted my partition 2 times and reinstalled BSPlayer on a clean system (nothing but BSplayer, ffdshow, video, sound, network drivers), but it's the same problem. However, I compared 2 movies, both compressed with xvid and 2 channels mpeg layer 3 audio and for one the main window is always shown, for the other is never shown. It looks like a bug to me. Other infos: BSplayer Pro 1.37.826 CPU Pentium D 830 Video card GeForce FX6800 Windows XP Pro SP2 All my drivers are the latest versions, so is the BIOS. |

Had the same problem once when BSPlayer escaped into the extended desktop (TV-out) and the video card remained activated. When I swiched the TV out, BSPlayer didn't come out any more. Found it by swiching from 800x600 on the desktop to 1024x768.

Really strange :? Have you tried to reinstall BSplayer -> start it -> close it -> delete the .xml file present in BSplayer folder -> restart BSplayer? Have you selected the option "Remember movie settings" in General preferences? I hope you can solve your problem

The main window disappears at some movies, but is visible at others. I can't seem to be able to tell how to reproduce the problem. I was hoping someone here had the same problem and knew what to do. I tried to reinstall BSplayer and delete all it's files, I even formatted the system partition and still the problem persists.

Haha, I JUST registered to post this exact problem!! On some video files, the main window won't show at all! Upon pressing enter on the file that is. However: I found out that there's no problem if I start BSP first and use the open file icon. |
| |||
Have you small files to post (not copyrighted) that causes this behaviour? If yes put here the link to the file, so we (and the authors) can try to reproduce the bug. Thanks, Tizio

Hi, Octopuss. Yes, we seem to have the same problem. If I start BSplayer first and then open a file, the main window is visible. Tizio, thank you for helping us. The problem is I don't have small files to post here at this time, I will try to find some. I don't use any codecs installed by me, it's a clean Windows XP sp2 install. So I didn't install ffdshow yet, or any other codec pack. So I'm thinking it is a bug in BSPlayer? Is it ok if I post some names of copyrighted movies? Not links, names. |

I'm back. After some playing with movies and BSplayer, I have noticed that I can't discover a rule on which the main window appears or not. Though I found some small videos, I think there's no point in uploading them, because at the same file, there are times when the window appears, and there are times it doesn't. But I am sure it's BSplayer Pro v1.37.826, as BSPlayer Pro 1.32.820 has no problem from this point of view. I could use some help here, Octopuss? |

hi ThinKing! I don't think that there are problems if you say names of copyrighted materials since this has been done often without problems,but "posting" I think it's another thing

I always start BSplayer by double-clicking on movie files, and I never experienced nothing like this.. If you can post some files (maybe by PM) I can try to reproduce the issue.. @Octopuss have you also installed TotalCommander?

Latest news! BSplayer behaves exactly the same with mp3s. What the hell is going on here? Tizio, this is one of the weirdest problems. For example, at these songs, the main window is displayed: ABBA - One of us Baccara - Sorry, i'm lady Benny B - Life it's life At these, there's no window. Because they are songs, I don't have a video window, nor a main window, so no controls at all: Baccara feat. M. Universal - Yes sir I can't boogie '99 Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Cyndi Lauper - Money Changes Everything However, I don't think this is relevant, if you say you don't have this problem at all. At these movies, the window is visible: Crash Keep Your Distance The Chronicles Of Narnia The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe XViD TS-maVen Here, the window is not visible: King Kong serenity The Constant Gardener (2005) two.for.the.money.tc.xvid-asteroids I don't have any codecs installed. I tried to format and reinstall Win XP SP2 and before anything else, even before Total Commander, I installed BSplayer and I still had the problem. Could it be the video driver? Or something else? |

Even if main window is not present you can press Alt+3 and see the information window. Does the files have a common thing (like 48.000 Hz audio) ? Can you open them in VIrtualDub and see wich of them are VBR ? In filters, can you post here wich filters are used to decode audio and video for all files you've tested ? |

Please, when you can, answer to adicoto's questions. Probably this will not help, but can you try to see if this program can locate BSplayer Main window? If yes, which is the position of BSplayer Window? After you click the "Reset BSP Position" does the Main Window appears? Try to press CTRL+R (this will try to redraw BSplayer skin).. I hope this will help you :) , but as I said probably this will not solve your problem at all :(

I can't tell what files does this happen with at all. The window is presenf but is invisible. This little utility does find the position I think... Well, I run it and it shows some coords... Nothing appears upon pressing reset tho. I do have Total Commander. Oh and - this weird behavior keeps bugging me like since ever. With every new version released, I was hoping someone came by this issue and it was fixed. But no :) |
| |||
Since you have TotalCommander too, I think that the posted issue can be related to this. I'll try to install TC and see if I can reproduce the bug. Can you tell me you OS please? Win 9.x or ME or XP etc.?

Well, I tried to run different files (about 100) from TC, of different types (.avi, .mpg, .wmv, . ogm, .mp3) and I had no problems at all. :? I ran TC under Windows ME, this evening (now here are 3.30PM) I'll try TC under Windows XP with SP1 and I'll report my test results. Have you updated also your Video Drivers? If you change skin the problem persists? The behaviour described by you 2 guys is really strange. If you can please answer also to adicoto's answer, it could be of interests for you and also for BSplayer staff. Tizio

Hi all. To adicoto (o sa vorbesc in engleza sa ma inteleaga toata lumea :) ): These movies show the main window: Crash (xvid, mpeg layer III, 2ch, 48000 Hz) Keep Your Distance (xvid, mpeg layer III, 2ch, 48000 Hz) The Chronicles Of Narnia (xvid, mpeg layer III, 2ch, 44100 Hz) These don't: King Kong (xvid, mpeg layer III, 2ch, 48000 Hz) serenity (xvid, mpeg layer III, 2ch, 48000 Hz) The Constant Gardener (2005) (xvid, mpeg layer III, 2ch, 48000 Hz) two.for.the.money.tc.xvid-asteroids (xvid, mpeg layer III, 2ch, 48000 Hz) Frankly, I can't seem to notice much of a difference, but BSplayer seems to have it's own way of choosing movies. Maybe it's by content... :lol: To Tizio: Ok, you gave me an important clue: the main window is displayed if I press CTRL+R as you suggested. I think the window may have been there all the time, only it was invisible. As for the program, it does not help too much, the window does not appear when I click Reset BSP position. However, the position is resetted, because if I press CTRL+R, now the window is in the upper left corner of the screen. Thank you all for helping me out here. I really appreciate it. So now we found the problem and I think it is BSplayer's problem: shouldn't the developers fix it? |
