Sounds like the file your trying to get to play is buggered. Try opening it in virtualdub see what that spits back. GSpot while excellent for .avis will not tell you much for .mpeg and .asf, afaik...

Try that, its an mpeg1/2 decoder that should allow you to play mpeg2 files in bsplayer. Got my flatmate to test it last night and it worked for him.
