  BSPeter We've always and consistently advised against installing codec-packs.
(Having installed one also... 2nd January 2013, 12:44 PM canadian1969 XP SP3 is the OS.
Under the filters/advances/source it says:

I have downloaded the sample and none of my programs identify an audio stream inside AVI container. VLC doesn't play any audio stream MPC doesn't play any audio stream MediaInfo doesn't detect any audio stream  |
